We knew when visiting Colombia that we wanted to take in the best it had to offer while also experiencing a slice of the Caribbean.
To make the most of our time here we felt it best to skip Bogota and Cartagena and focus on Medellin and the surrounding areas. This would in turn allow us to
experience the country side, mountains, lakes, coffee regions, the Comunas and Pablo Escobar sights.
We didn't know too much what to expect with COVID restrictions just lifting in Colombia and upcomming elections. Even for San Andres (the Colombian Caribbean)
we knew little except that it was popular with locals looking to take a break.
NOTES: Due to necessary connections and time differences we arrived very early into Medellin and had to muscle through a long first day quiet tired before we got any rest.
Colombia can be visted fairly cheaply. Despite the long flights we managed to find direct flights from the UK to Bogotá with Avianca for about £450 per person and this included a return from the island of San Andres. Accomodation, food, transport and tours are also fairly cheap. However accomodation on the island of San Andres is notably more expensive, as would be expected with any caribbean island.
